Access Jackson County Clerk Records

Jackson County Clerk records are maintained by the Jackson County Clerk / Recording Office for recorded documents, marriage licenses, domestic partnerships, Property Value Appeals Board services, passports, and related county recording services. A Jackson County Clerk records search is different from a Circuit Court case search because Oregon trial-court case records are managed through the Oregon Judicial Department and Jackson County Circuit Court. Clerk record access may use Room 114 service windows, the Digital Research Room, certified-copy carts, in-person research, public-record request routing, or historical inventory research.

The Jackson County Clerk / Recording Office is a county office led by County Clerk Christine D. Walker. The office does not act as the general keeper of Oregon state-court case files. The Clerk / Recording Office controls the local recording and licensing records assigned to the county clerk.

The official office page lists the Recording Office at 10 S. Oakdale Avenue, Room 114, Medford, OR 97501. Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is required during posted business hours. General Recording Office service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Marriage licenses are issued 8:00-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Partition plats and subdivisions are recorded 8:00-10:45 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.

  • Recorded documents, including deeds, mortgages, reconveyances, liens, releases, powers of attorney, easements, affidavits, mining claims, and similar filings.
  • Marriage licenses, certified marriage copies, regular marriage copies, and license re-creation when an issued license is lost or destroyed.
  • Domestic partnership registrations and copies.
  • Digital Research Room access for non-confidential recorded documents.
  • Property Value Appeals Board office service and related public routing.

The Jackson County recording fees page points users to the current recording fee document center and recording requirements.

Jackson County Digital Research Room

The Digital Research Room portal provides online access to Jackson County recorded documents. Documents recorded after January 1, 1984, are searchable by name, instrument number, document date, document type, and/or volume and page. Documents before 1984 are more limited and may require instrument number or volume/page searching. Ownership deeds can be viewed free with a watermark, and a purchased copy removes the watermark. Other document types may be downloaded after purchase.

Regular-copy carts can be downloaded immediately. Certified-copy carts require manual processing and mailing. The research also notes that a subscription option exists for full access to non-confidential recorded documents, with monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual subscription choices.

Request Jackson County Certified Copies

A certified Clerk copy is used when the requester needs an official county recording or marriage record, not just an informational image. For recorded documents, the Digital Research Room can start the search, but certified-copy carts are manually processed and mailed. For marriage records, a certified copy is available only after the completed original license is returned and recorded. Certified copies requested at license purchase are mailed within 2-3 days after recording.

  1. Identify the record type first: recorded document, marriage license, domestic partnership, or another Clerk / Recording Office record.
  2. Search by name, instrument number, document date, document type, or volume/page when using the Digital Research Room.
  3. Choose certified copy when legal proof is needed, and regular copy when an informational copy is enough.
  4. Pay the applicable copy fee and any subscription or cart charge required by the access channel.
  5. For certified-copy carts, allow manual processing and mailing rather than expecting immediate download.

Note: Certified court orders, divorce judgments, and probate letters are requested from Circuit Court, not the Recording Office.

Jackson County Records Request Fields

The county public-records request PDF is a broader county routing form, not a Digital Research Room search screen. It matters when a requested county record is not available through the ordinary Clerk copy cart or when the request must be routed to another county department such as Justice Court or the Sheriff's Office. The form requires enough detail for staff to identify the record.

Jackson County Clerk Marriage Records

Marriage licenses are one of the most common Clerk record requests. Applicants may complete the online marriage application before visiting or use public computers in the Clerk's Office. Both applicants must appear with current photo ID and pay in person. The legal age is 18, first cousins or nearer kin may not marry, blood tests and medical exams are not required, and the license has a three-day waiting period unless a waiver is purchased.

Once effective, a Jackson County marriage license is valid for 60 days anywhere in Oregon. Two witnesses over age 18 are required. The completed original license must be returned to the Clerk's Office within five days after the marriage, and if the couple does not return it, the officiant must. Decorative or memento certificates are not legal proof of marriage, so certified copies are the practical proof record.

Historical Jackson County Clerk Records

The Oregon Secretary of State Jackson County records inventory shows the history behind Jackson County Clerk and recording records. Clerk and Recorder Miscellaneous Recordings from 1867-1965 include filings such as wills, obligation bonds, quitclaims, deeds, conveyances, mortgage satisfactions, agreements, charters, partnership dissolutions, contracts, powers of attorney, liens, leases, marriage licenses, military discharges, ministerial certificates, medical personnel licenses, birth and death certificates, and affidavits of publication.

Official filings have been maintained from 1966 onward. Since 1966, deeds, mortgages, mining claims, water rights, and military discharges have been recorded in Clerk Official Records. Official records generated since 1985 have been indexed on computers available in the Clerk's recording division office. Property Data Online includes deed records from 2002-present. Some older records are stored in Room 114, the basement vault, Oregon State Archives, or Access contracted storage. The Secretary of State notes that Access storage has no public access, so the relevant department must be contacted.
